China's Copper Ore Import QTY Up & Price Down in Jan-Oct 2014

According to China customs statistics, in January-October, China's imports of copper ore and concentrate totaled 9.501 million tons, up 17.1% over last year (YOY), worth CNY 106.93 billion, up 9.5% YOY; average import price at 11,255 yuan per ton, down 6.5% YOY.

Main Causes of Copper Ore Import QTY Up and Price Down:

(1) Rising ore-processing fees drove smelting plants to increase the imports.

(2) Copper oversupply led to the price fall.

Considerable Problems:

With copper smelting capacity growing fast, China will be more dependent on foreign-made raw materials.
