China's Dairy Import Down in October 2014 (Summary)

According to China customs statistics, in January-October 2014, China imported 1.761 million tons of dairy products, an increase of 26% over last year (YOY); worth CNY 46.48 billion, an increase of 39.9% YOY; average import price at 26,000 yuan per ton, up 11.1% YOY. There in October, the import reached 115,000 tons, down 22.9% YOY; worth 2.72 billion yuan, down 34% YOY; average import price at 24,000 yuan per ton, down 14.4% YOY.

Main Causes of the Dairy Import Decrease in October:

(1) International supply was sufficient, making a price suppression.

(2) Domestic dairy inventory remained high.

Considerable Problems:

(1) Global milk prices continue falling, impact on domestic dairy industry.

(2) Import dairy problems frequent, foreign brands are still favored

(3) Chinese enterprises are distributing overseas, dairy import sources in change.
